Future betting tips on the top NFL teams

March 8, 2013 in 360 News

Now is the time of year to start placing future bets on your best picks of the top NFL teams, and you will be joining the hoards of Americans who are also doing so. However, unless you understand NFL very well, it can be a very difficult kind of bet to call. Future bets are not for everyone, and although they are great fun early season, the downside is that they can tie in your betting fund for a long period of time. If you place a bet today on which NFL team will win the Superbowl, score the most points, make the most touchdowns and so on, you will see no return on your money for five or sixth months.

However, if you are willing to tie up your money for that time, and you are willing to do some research on how the draft has changed the make-up of various teams, the current form of the top players, and anything you can glean from pre-season training, then there is good money to be made. With future bets what you are aiming to do is to be a little cleverer than the bookmaker and identify a set of value bets that should make you money. Read the rest of this entry →

Colts Can’t Finish The Game, So Ravens Finish Their Season

January 6, 2013 in Colts Games, Colts News

It wasn’t that they didn’t fight hard. It wasn’t that there weren’t any good plays. They didn’t even make that many mistakes. But the Colts just couldn’t pull it off. Too many times today, the Colts didn’t finish the drives. It was like each drive had frayed ends. They just couldn’t wrap it up. Everyone played hard. They played clean. But when it came down to it, they left it empty. Colts fans are feeling the loss. Its like wind going out of the proverbial sails. And like that, the Colts are done. And Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens are headed to Mile High to meet Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

WildCard Sunday Preview: Indianapolis Colts (11-5) vs Baltimore Ravens (10-6)

January 6, 2013 in Colts Game Previews, Colts Games, Colts News, Uncategorized

To say that both of these teams will be playing with emotion is an understatement. In fact, this may be dubbed as the “Emotion Bowl”. With the Colts’ coach Chuck Pagano back in action and the Ravens’ legendary Ray Lewis playing his last game in Baltimore, it’s all on the line on both sides. Rookie Andrew Luck wants to prove himself as the new face of the Colts franchise and get his team to a Super Bowl. Ray Lewis wants to hoist the Lombardi one last time. There is so much at stake for both teams. But will their emotions be their downfall?

The Ravens are 5-1 with Ray Lewis; they’re 5-5 without. He is their leader, their beating heart. And he returns today with a LOT of work to do. Joe Flacco has struggled. The defense has struggled. So can the Return of Ray bring Flacco back from his late-season stumbles? Or is Lewis still not healthy enough to play like he is still capable of?

The Colts have their leader back…the leader who is the former Ravens defensive coordinator. He knows the strengths and weaknesses. Did he spill the defensive secrets to Andrew Luck and his offensive core? Let’s hope he did, because the Colts’ banged up offense needs a slight edge. And without former interim head coach Bruce Arians on the field (who has been hospitalized after fighting the flu all week), can Luck deal with having yet another voice in his head?

There are so many questions that are going to be answered today. And the one that Colts Country wants answered is a win is that proves this franchise is still valid, still a force of contention. But too much emotion can kill this team as well, as it has in the past. Cool heads must prevail. Luck needs to make smart decisions and get rid of the ball when he’s under pressure, even if that means tossing it to ghosts. The O-line needs to protect Luck and give him the time to make smart plays. And the defense needs to play as strong, nay stronger, than they have been all season. Mathis and Freeney need to wipe Flacco out, tire him out and pressure him into making snap decisions. Bethea needs to get his feet under himself and put pressure on his man. Penalties need to be kept to a minimum by keeping emotions under control and playing clean. And we will certainly need McAfee to give us some good boots from the “Boomstick”. Everyone has to be at 110% today. Even the guy who only gets 1 play. So much is riding on this.

Week 15 Recap: Mistakes, Depleted Offense, Watt Plague Colts in Loss to Texans

December 16, 2012 in Colts Games, Colts News, Uncategorized

Houston Texans’ defensive end J.J. Watt was on the hunt, and with a depleted offensive line, Andrew Luck was an endangered species. Watt sacked the rookie quarterback three times (Luck was taken down five times total) and his forced fumble on Colts’ running back Mewelde Moore at the 1-yard line kept the Colts from a much-needed touchdown. Even the golden-footed punter Pat McAfee had a crappy day when one of his punts was blocked deep in Colts territory and caused a Texans touchdown.

The pressure from Watt and his defensive corps held the Colts to just 1-for-8 on third down conversions and stonewalled Luck, who completed only 13 of his 27 passes for 186 yards. In comparison, Houston’s Arian Foster RAN for 165 yards on 27 carries. Despite the Colts’ poor showing and inability to consistently make plays, the most disappointing part of this game was the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty called on the Colts’ interim head coach, Bruce Arians.

So far, it is unclear exactly why the penalty was called, but it really doesn’t matter. That is not the attitude of an Indianapolis Colts coach. It might be tolerated, even expected, from a hothead like Bill Belichick, but that is not Colts football. Yeah, all of Colts Country was steamed, but at that point in time the Colts needed their current commander-in-chief to keep his composure and pull them back together.

The win gave the Texans the AFC South title for the second year in a row. The Colts still have a shot of making the playoffs if they beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 16 at Kansas City. Colts fans can only hope…

Week 14 Recap: Defense Pushes Colts Past Titans

December 10, 2012 in Colts Games, Colts News, Uncategorized

Many apologies from TheColtsCorgi with this late post. It won’t happen again!

Titans QB Jake Locker hurt the Colts bad in the first quarter. He was 6-for-6 with a TD throw to tight end Jared Cook to give the Titans an early 7-0 lead. But Andrew Luck was able to toss 3 passes for a tidy 50 yards and hit a wide-open Reggie Wayne for a touchdown. This allowed kicker Adam Vinatieri to tie the game with 1:01 left. The first quarter closed Titans 7 – Colts 7.

During the second quarter, Locker was on fire again and marched his offense down the field until the Titans were stalled by the Colts defense. Of course, this only came after Locker launched a doozy 46-yard pass to Kenny Britt, which in turn set up a clean field goal for kicker Rob Bironas. With 12:27 still to play in the second, the Titans were ahead 10-7. Later, as Luck fell trying to escape Titans defensive end Derrick Morgan, he released the ball directly into the arms of Titans linebacker Will Witherspoon, who then ran 40 yards for a touchdown (Titans 17 – Colts 7). Looking at the replay, it is clear that Luck was down before the ball left his hand, which would have resulted in a QB Sack and NOT a pick-six. But it seemed that the officials at this game were struggling with seeing what was actually happening on the field. Many calls that shouldn’t have been made were, and vice versa. I saw it for both teams. Yeah, I like it when things go our way, but I certainly don’t like it when it seems that favoritism is being played and one team is getting screwed royally. But I digress. Let’s get to the end of the second quarter. Locker finished the half as strong as he started, completing 5-of-7 for 75 yards, including yet another 46-yard bomb to Kenny Britt. But once again the drive was stalled and Bironas was called in to put it through the uprights and end the half with that Titans on top, 20-7.

The third quarter opened with Luck leading the Colts 80 yards in 14 plays. He converted two third downs, both to Reggie Wayne, and running back Vick Ballard’s feet were moving the offense to the endzone as well. Delone Carter broke through the Titans defense from the 1-yard line for the touchdown and kicker Adam Vinatieri capped it with the extra point to bring the score to 20-14. With 5:36 left in the third, punter Pat McAfee booted a gorgeous ball down the field that went out at the Titans own 1-yard line. On the first play after the punt, Locker aimed for wide receiver Nate Washington, but the ball never reached him. The Colts’ Cassius Vaughn took a bead on the ball, intercepted it, and ran it in for a defensive touchdown. Vinatieri hit the extra point. The third quarter ended with Colts finally in control over the Titans, 21-20.

At the 10:28 mark of the fourth quarter, the Titans were back in control after Bironas hit another field goal (Titans 23 – Colts 21). Soon after, two defensive penalties against the Colts gave the Titans two third-down conversions and walked them down the field. Kicker Adam Vinatieri revived the Colts after the painful defensive penalties with a heart-stopping 53-yard field goal (we all knew he was going to hit it) to give the Colts the lead once again, 24-23. With 3:48 remaining in the game, the Colts’ Darius Butler intercepted a pass by Locker at the Titan’s 28, setting Vinatieri up for yet another field goal. This one, too, sailed through the uprights and gave the Colts the win, 27-23.

Rookie mistakes by Luck, poor penalty-calling by the officials, and a VERY hungry Titan’s offense made this a hard-fought game for the Colts. They’re looking a little thin at running back. Yeah, I’m sure Luck could play some Wildcat, but do we really want to do that? I don’t. Not at all. And how about next week? Houston is playing the Patriots on MNF…it isn’t pretty for Houston. In fact, it’s looking much uglier than we did against New England. The short week could potentially play in the Colt’s favor. We can only hope that a mental and physical bashing by Tom Brady and the Pats can do a bit of damage to Houston and give us a more favorable chance, at least at being at the top of the division. I hope to never say this again, but…come on Patriots. Ugh…I think I need a drink now.

Week 14 Preview: Tennessee (4-8) @ Indianapolis (8-4)

December 8, 2012 in Colts Game Previews, Colts Games, Colts News

WHAT I’M THINKING
After last Sunday’s nail-biting, last-second finish on what can only be called a miracle play, Colts fans may be able to breathe a bit this weekend.

COLTS
As we near the end of the regular season, I’m noticing something in the Circle City: no longer do I hear my fellow Colts fans lamenting the loss of our beloved Peyton Manning. Indeed, “The House That Peyton Built” (Lucas Oil Stadium, if you were wondering), is singing the praises of one Mr. Andrew Luck and asking “Peyton who?” (but we still love you, #18!). This kid has some serious chops. He can think on his feet. He can throw from the ground. He can take a hit and make a tackle. And he can run. WELL. Man is he fast for as big as he is! Need more proof that he’s not just an arm? Andrew Luck has the third-most rushing yards for the team this season at 216 yards on 44 carries. But with RB Donald Brown out with his second injury of the season and rookie RB Vick Ballard (468yds/127 carries) the only main go-to guy on the ground, the Titans defense had better be ready for a serious air game. As in the past, the Colts have proven themselves a formidable foe in the air with a receiving arsenal consisting of the legendary Reggie Wayne (1156yds/88 receptions/3 TDs), Donnie Avery (675yds/45 receptions/3 TDs), and the impressive hands of rookie T.Y. Hilton (588yds/39 receptions/5 TDs).

But, as always, Colts fans pull back when we talk about the defense. Yeah, they’re rough around the edges. But they’re not THAT bad…they’re certainly better than the Titans. But they are pretty banged up. A majority of the injured/reserve guys are defensive players. Guys are having to switch up, play new positions to fill in holes. I’m not sure how much of that can affect a player’s game, but I know that even moving the furniture in my house makes me flip out a little bit for the first few days. Going from a position that you’ve played your whole career to something potentially entirely new…I’m sure that wreaks havoc on the mind. The Colts defense needs the fans’ support now more than ever. No, they’re not 100%. Hell, I can’t remember the last time we had a defense at 100%. But they sure are giving it their all, and as they learn our new defense and take the baby steps that are needed to create a frightening defense that we have seen with teams like the Ravens, we as fans need to stand behind them. Keep it loud. Give them that fire to make smart decisions and make plays.

INJURIES
S Antoine Bethea (neck) – Probable
RB Donald Brown (ankle) – OUT
OLB Dwight Freeney (non-injury related) – STATUS NOT AVAILABLE
TE Winston Justice (head) – QUESTIONABLE
QB Andrew Luck (knee) – PROBABLE (don’t freak…he spent Weeks 8 & 9 on the list and got on it again in Week 12. He practiced all week.)
OLB Robert Mathis (non-injury related) – STATUS NOT AVAILABLE
DE Cory Redding (ankle) – PROBABLE
G Joe Reitz (head) – OUT
S Tom Zbikowski (knee) – OUT

TITANS
The struggling Titans are away from home. Quarterback Jake Locker (120/212, 1473yds) has been nursing a sore left shoulder injury since Week 5 and it seems that healthy wide receivers are few and far between: only Nate Washington and Kendall Wright are not listed on this week’s injury report. The Titans’ rushing game is a bit thin, too. While RB Chris Johnson leads the team with an impressive 993 yards on 204 carries, the second-most productive rusher is quarterback Locker (162yds/21 carries). I’d say that things are looking grim on the ground for the Titans. The defense (ranked 27th in the league) doesn’t seem to be faring any better. Sack-leader Kamerion Wimbley (5.0 on the season) is questionable for Sunday with a toe injury, leaving #2 sack-producer Akeem Ayers (4.0 sacks on the season) possibly alone in the successful hunt for Andrew Luck (and that is potentially good news for #12). While other team members have tracked down quarterbacks (9 other Titans all have at least 1 sack this season), I don’t find it likely that Luck will be having to stare defenders in the face as they take him down, which is encouraging considering he has been an endangered species all season.

INJURIES
WR Kenny Britt (knee) – PROBABLE
TE Jared Cook (neck) – PROBABLE
RB Jamie Harper (ankle) – PROBABLE
WR Lavelle Hawkins (ankle) – QUESTIONABLE
LG Steve Hutchinson (ankle) – OUT (Kyle DeVan is listed as second-string)
QB Jake Locker (left shoulder) – PROBABLE
LB Colin McCarthy (concussion) – OUT (Tim Shaw is listed as second-string)
LT Michael Roos (knee) – QUESTIONABLE
DB Alterraun Veiner (illness) – PROBABLE
WR Damian Williams (hamstring) – OUT
DE Kamerion Wimbley (toe) – QUESTIONABLE

THE WAY I SEE IT
I see another impressive showing by #12. Home turf energizes him and he tends to keep a clearer head and make better decisions. The air game will be ferocious, but not without the rookie mistakes. The ground game will be there, but I don’t see it being vital to winning this game. The Colts have to convert on third down. I don’t want to see a lot of Pat McAffee this weekend. The defense has to step it up and take Locker down, scare him into making mistakes. There needs to be more pressure against the pass. They have to stop third down conversions. They have GOT to stop Chris Johnson. The Titans passing game is going to be fierce, and the run game is going to be a large factor in their plan of attack. Their defense is going to go after Luck…hard. I’m sure they will blitz the crap out of him. But, if the Colts stick to the plan and make minimal mistakes, there is no doubt that they will come out on top. I’m calling it Colts over Titans, 27-17.

Game Preview: Colts vs. Bills

November 25, 2012 in Colts Game Previews, Colts News

The Indianapolis Colts have a perfect opportunity to separate themselves from the other teams in the AFC for a wildcard spot by taking the Bills out of the picture and improving to 7-4. If the Colts lose, the Bills will only be one game behind them and they will have the advantage in a tie breaker. This game will not clinch a playoff spot for the Colts, nor will it eliminate the Bills, but the impact that a win will have today is too big to not consider this a significant game.

The Bills are loaded with two great running backs who are both capable or dominating a defense on any given day, but when forced to throw, Fitzpatrick has been known to turn the ball over. The Colts will need to stuff the run and force the Bills to try and attack through the air. However, for that to work, the Colts front seven will nee to pressure Fitzpatrick when he’s dropping back to pass.

The Colts defense will need to step it up today, and the offense just needs to keep doing what they have have been doing, and that’s let Andrew Luck guide them to a victory.

Colts vs. Dolphins Game Preview

November 4, 2012 in Colts Game Previews, Colts News

Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts will welcome Ryan Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins to Indianapolis for the first duel between the rookie quarterbacks. Andrew Luck was the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, and Tennehill went eighth overall. Both quarterbacks have been playing well so far, but Andrew Luck has been making Indianapolis his home, playing his best football while in his home dome, and having an impressive 3-1 home record. Both quarterbacks are leading their teams with 4-3 records, but only one will have a winning record as the two teams will be finishing off the first half of their seasons today.

The Colts will need their defense to buckle down and be able to contain Reggie Bush, who has been having an excellent season, but they must also find ways to prevent Tannehill from making plays. Additionally, the Colts will need Andrew Luck to play the way he has been playing at home, and conclude the first half of the season with a 5-3 record. The Colts are in a great position to make a push towards a playoff spot, and a loss today would be a setback against one of the other contenders. Look for the Colts to come out passing today.

Colts Fans Continue to Support the Team

October 19, 2012 in Colts News

The support for the Indianapolis Colts shown by their fans has been unrelenting to say the least. Despite finishing in last place in 2011 with a dismal 3-13 record and starting off their 2012 season with inconsistent play and a 2-3 record, the Colts fans haven’t stopped showing up to Lucas Oil Stadium. Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk noted today that the Colts have announced that they sold out their game against the 1-5 Cleveland Browns this upcoming Sunday, which will be their 70th straight sell out.

Attendance in the NFL has been slowly declining since it peaked in 2007, but for the Colts, the fans have been showing their passion by continuing to show up after Peyton Manning’s quick exit from Indianapolis. After Manning went down, the Colts fans could have easily just stayed home and played at PartyCasino, but instead, they have shown unwavering support for the current Colts team that looks like they have a very bright future with Andrew Luck as their quarterback. For how much longer will this streak continue, we won’t know until it’s over, but if they can start winning with Luck leading the way, then this streak may never end for the Indianapolis Colts.

Colts Get Pounded By Jets

The Colts lost to the Jets Sunday 35-9.  The frustrating thing for Indianapolis, now 2-3, was that New York did exactly what it expected. And the Colts still couldn’t do anything about the running game.  ”We wanted Sanchez to have to beat us with his arm,” cornerback Jerraud Powers said. “If we stopped the run, that was what they were going to have to do. Whoever we play next week, that’s what they’re going to do. They’re going to run the ball until we stop it.”

Luck finished 22 of 44 for 280 yards, two interceptions and a lost fumble on a day.  ”It’s learning how to be consistent, and that’s something I’ve struggled with,” Luck said. “I think I played very poorly this week after a decent half of football last weekend. As a team, we have to learn to come out and consistently be good.”

Reggie Wayne once again led the team in receiving, catching 5 balls for 87 yards.  Donnie Avery also had four catches for 60 yards.  The Colts had no run game, Vick Ballard carried the ball 8 times for 25 yards.

“If you can’t block and you can’t tackle, you can’t win,” Arians said. “It’s fundamentals, things we identified going into the game: fake punts, stopping the run, protecting the quarterback. Red zone offense and defense were keys to the game. We didn’t win in any of those areas.”

The Colts take on the Browns at home on Sunday.
